Adventures in Building

Well, we worked on building the garden boxes yesterday. We actually finished 3 of the 4 boxes, but we were plum tuckered out after those 3. Plus, the wonderful people at Lowe’s who cut the wood for us missed one cut, and I was not feeling power tools at the time. I mean, combining a tired adult, a tired and cranky 5 year old, and a power saw just seemed like asking for disaster. Besides, his daddy has a day off coming up, so if we wait we can have him be a part of the project too.

We did decide where we are going to put them – in a nice sunny corner of the front yard where the dog won’t be able to reach them. And we bought all our seeds, and I worked out where and how many to plant for each type of vegetable. I’m still thinking about how best to water. I could always just drag the hose out, but we live in Florida, and once summer hits you have to mow the yard every week or the grass just takes over, so I don’t really want the hose laying out all the time. My dad suggested getting a splitter for the water spicket and getting anew hose for one side of it, which I could then bury in a shallow trench, running it all the way to the garden and hooking it to a soaker hose in the boxes. That sounds like the best thing to do, but it will also take a lot of work. Hmm, maybe start with just the hose, then add the rest while my little guy is on spring break with his grandparents, and I can work in peace. 🙂

Anyway, here are some pics of the adventure so far:
